Inherited from Chagatai [Term?], from Proto-Turkic [Term?]. By surface analysis, ip (thread) +‎ -ak (diminutive suffix). Cognate with Kazakh жібек (jıbek), Crimean Tatar yipek, Turkish ipek, etc.
