Etymology

From imm- + Proto-Celtic *winati (bend, enclose), from Proto-Indo-European *weh₁y- (to weave, wind). Cognate with व्ययति (vyáyati), Latin vieō and Russian вить (vitʹ, to wind, twist, weave).
