[edit]Probably from Proto-Yoruboid *ʊ́-kɔ́, compare with Olukumi ukọ́, Igala úkọ́, equivalent to *ú- (“nominalizing prefix”) + *kɔ́ (“to cough”), ultimately of onomatopoeic origin.
