idiot stick (plural idiot sticks)

1. A trick toy in which the mark is challenged to catch a hooked stick on a rubber band inside a tube. In reality, there is no rubber band in the tube; the trickster creates the illusion of one by propelling the handle of the stick by squeezing it between their fingers, which looks as if it is being pulled back in by the rubber band.
