[edit]From Ancient Greek ῐ̓δῐοσῠγκρᾱσῐ́ᾱ (idiosunkrāsíā, “peculiar habit or temperament”), from ῐ̓́δῐος (ídios, “peculiar”) + σῠν- (sun-, “with”) + κρᾶσῐς (krâsis, “mixture”) + -ία (-ía). Compare French idiosyncrasie, Spanish and Italian idiosincrasia, Polish idiosynkrazja, Russian идиосинкрази́я (idiosinkrazíja), Yiddish אידיאָסינקראַסי (idyosinkrasi).
