[edit]From Alanic *xwarz, from Proto-Sarmatian *xwarz, from Proto-Sarmatian *xwarzi, from Proto-Iranian *xwaržah (“pleasant; sweet”). Cognate with Iron Ossetian хорз (xorz), Digor Ossetian хуарз (xwarz, “good”), Balochi اَوَرزا(awarza "pleasant, agreeable"), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hwʾlyst' /xwālist/, “sweetest”), Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬀- (xᵛarəzišta-, “sweetest”), Old Armenian ախորժ (axorž).
