hollow victory (plural hollow victories)

  1. (sometimes proscribed)[1][2] A Pyrrhic victory; an empty victory that is not worth winning because so much is lost in order to achieve it.
  2. Used other than figuratively or idiomatically: see hollow,‎ victory. A victory that is hollow, i.e. meaningless.
