  1. To do something intended to punish or hurt (someone), especially as a sudden or surprise action.
    We'll hit them with a lawsuit, that'll shut them up.
  2. To tell someone something that is surprising or unpleasantly shocking.
    Just hit me with the bad news straight-up, doc.
  3. To share, hand over or impart.
    He hit me with a proposal.
