[edit]Borrowed from Arabic حَيْف (ḥayf, “injustice”). . Sense 2 is back-formation from heyf vegerrandin/heyf vekirin (“to avenge; lit. to do injustice back, to return cruelty”), displaced native tol in most Northern dialects.
