Etymology

from Proto-Iranian *hampr̥sā. Cognate with Persian ارس (ors)/اورس (avers), Baluchi اپرس (apors, juniper). Borrowed into Hebrew בְּרוֹשׁ (bərṓš), Aramaic בְּרֹותָא (bərōṯā), Turkish ardıç.
