[edit]from Proto-Iranian *hampr̥sā. Cognate with Persian ارس (ors)/اورس (avers), Baluchi اپرس (apors, “juniper”). Borrowed into Hebrew בְּרוֹשׁ (bərṓš), Aramaic בְּרֹותָא (bərōṯā), Turkish ardıç.
