head-up display (plural head-up displays)

  1. A semitransparent graphical and textual display of information projected upon the field of view of a pilot of an aircraft.
    Synonym: HUD
  2. (nautical) A type of radar or electronic chart display where the top of the display always represents the direction the vessel is heading.
  3. (video games) A display of score, status, etc. superimposed over the playfield.
