Etymology

[edit]

Usually derived from Arabic عُرْس (ʕurs). While this is entirely plausible given the use of epenthetic vowels in Swahili, the similarity with Persian عروسی (arusi, wedding) is also striking.

Noun

harusi class IX (plural harusi class X)

  1. wedding (marriage ceremony)
