[edit]From Middle High German hantschuoch, from Old High German hantscuoh, from Proto-West Germanic *handuskōh. Equivalent to Hand (“hand”) + Schuh (“shoe”). Cognate with Luxembourgish Händsch, Dutch handschoen.
