glomper (plural glompers)

  1. (electronics, obsolete) A logic clip; a device that clips to a dual-in-line (DIL) integrated circuit. [c. 1974–early 2000s]
    • 1974, Don Lancaster, TTL Cookbook, Howard W. Sams & Co., Testing and Monitoring States, page 27:
Static or dynamic testing is greatly simplified with an IC Glomper clip such as the one shown in Fig. 1-9. These clips snap onto an IC and bring out pins for easy testing.
    • 1983 August, Timothy Daniel, “Enhancing Your Apple II, Vol. 1”, in Incider, volume 1, number 8, page 157, column 2:
Enhancement one is so easy that it sticks out like a sore thumb. Directions are given for building two kinds of "glompers." А glomper is designed to simplify the hookup between your Apple and a television set.
    • 1989, Douglas V. Hall, “Latches, Flip-Flops, Counters, and Logic Analyzers” (chapter 8), in Digital Circuits and Systems, McGraw-Hill Publishing, Logic Analyzers, page 219:
Here the test leads are attached to a "glomper clip.'" which is clipped onto one of the major ICs in the test circuit.
    • 1993 June, “The Logic Clip”, in The Maplin Magazine, volume 12, number 66, page 63, column 1:
Also known as a ‘glomper clip’ (where do they get these names from?), this little gadget is like having a handful of logic probes, though in a much more compact form. In use it clips over the IC and connects to all of the pins of the IC at the same time.
    • 1997 June, Don Lancaster, “Some New Current Sensors”, in Tech Musings, page 137.4, column 2:
Another interesting but pricey new development is a new flexible current transducer. Instead of a clamp-around glomper, you’ ve got this rope-shaped transducer which could get carefully worked around your individual wires in comfined spaces.
