Etymology

From Old Swedish girugher, gerogher, found in the 13th century Westrogothic law (Westgöta-Lagen), related to Old Swedish giri (desire). Compare to Eastern Old Norse gráðugr, Old High German giri from Proto-Germanic *girį̄.
