Etymology

Maybe borrowed from Japanese 芫花 (genka), whose historical spelling is げんくわ (genkwa), ultimately comes from Middle Chinese 芫花 (MC ngjwon xwae, “lilac daphne”). (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
