Borrowed from New Latin genīohyoīdeus, clipping of musculus genīohyoīdeus; from Ancient Greek γένειον (géneion, the chin) +‎ Latin hyoīdēs (U-shaped) +‎ Latin -eus (adjectival suffix); equivalent to genio- (relating to the chin) +‎ hyoid.
