[edit]From Arabic عَادَ (ʕāda, “he returned, did again”). Compare مَا عادَ (mā ʕāda, “he stopped, did no more”), which has also become an adverb in many dialects and may be construed with pronominal suffixes in some of them. Compare Moroccan Arabic عاد (ʕād) and Hebrew עוד (ʿōd, “still”).
