Etymology

From Middle Irish gúna (gown; outer tunic or dress),[1] borrowed from Anglo-Norman gune, goune (fur-trimmed coat, pelisse), from Old French goune, from Late Latin gunna (leather garment, a fur). Cognate with Manx gooyn, English gown.
