Etymology

[edit]

Unclear. Probably a blend of súkkulaði with some term such as gómsætur (delicious). Interpreted as a Danish term (gummelade) by many speakers despite the term seemingly not existing in Danish. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Noun

[edit]

gúmmelaði n (genitive singular gúmmelaðis, no plural)

  1. (informal) yummy sugary baked goods or sweets
    Synonyms: bakkelsi, sætabrauð
  2. (informal, figurative) something very appealing; yummy
