Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Cypriot Greek κολοκάσι (kolokási) first into Cypriot Turkish where the most faithful forms are recorded (kolokas etc.) and then into Southern Anatolian dialects with various distortions. The form gölevez is from Mersin dialect. Replaced Ottoman Turkish قلقاس (kulkas) from Arabic قُلْقَاس (qulqās).
