[edit]Borrowed from German Genom, coined by German botanist Hans Winkler in 1920 as a blend of Gen (“gene”) + Chromosom (“chromosome”).[1] By surface analysis, blend of gène + chromosome.[2] Spelling altered by association with the surface analysis.
