floatover (plural floatovers)

  1. A marine construction in which an upper structure is prebuilt and then floated into position over a lower part, often used for offshore oil rigs.
The floatover installation is dependent on the ocean conditions, as movement must be minimised.
    • 2005, Subrata Chakrabarti, Handbook of Offshore Engineering, page 1101:
External floatovers are less common than internal ones and are more sensitive to environmental loading than internal floatovers.
