[edit]From Old Swedish flere, flæster, from Old Norse fleiri, from Proto-Germanic *flaizô, derived from Proto-Indo-European *pleh₁- (“full, many”). Cognate, among others, with Icelandic fleiri, flestr, Latin plūs and Ancient Greek πλέως (pléōs), πλεῖστος (pleîstos).

- I picked more apples than Anna, but Sven picked even more apples.
- Sven plockade de flesta äpplena, så blev det inte så många kvar till Anna och mig.
- Sven picked most of the apples [from the tree], so not many were left to Anna and me.
Usage notes
[edit]- Many native Swedish speakers would consider this to be a comparative of mången, månget, många (“many”), which however is a pronoun and not an adjective.
