fairy cycle (plural fairy cycles)

      Around the time of the First World War, a scooter was the thing, with smallsh wooden wheels about five inches in diameter. The wheels gradually were made larger until a scooter became what was later known as a 'fairy cycle', with wheels similar to those on contemporary dolls' prams.
