A compound of the Ancient Greek εὐρῠ́ς (eurŭ́s, wide”, “broad) +‎ γνᾰ́θος (gnắthos, jaw) +‎ -ος (-os, suffix forming second-declension adjectives). Compare εὐρῠγένειος (eurŭgéneios, broad-chinned) and πλᾰτύγνᾰθος (plătúgnăthos, broad-jawed).
