Middle French
[edit]Etymology
[edit]First known attestation 1573. Old French *estrave, a borrowing from Old Norse stafn. The technical nature of the word may explain why it is not attested earlier,[1] as Old Norse had split into its daughter languages by 1573.
Noun
[edit]estrave f (plural estraves)
Descendants
[edit]- French: étrave
