Luxembourgish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From German erlauben, from Middle High German erlouben. Probably an older borrowing from a time when the underlying phoneme (Middle High German -ou-) had not yet been monophthongised in Luxembourgish. Alternatively, the vowel may have been adapted to the related native noun Verlaf (compare German Verlaub).
