erdem

Turkish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Common Turkic *erdem.[1] While Clauson claims a derivational link to Proto-Turkic *ēr (“man, male”),[1] Nişanyan rejects this link, despite a Latin parallel between virtus and vir (“man”).[2] Cognates with Karakhanid اَرْدَمْ (erdem), Tuvan эртем (ertem), Uyghur ئەردەم (erdem).
