Etymology

From Old Swedish enfaldogher (folded once) (older form enfalder), from en (one) + fåll (crease; fold) + -ig (-y), from Old Norse einfaldr, from Proto-Germanic *ainafalþaz. Related to English onefold. Akin to en +‎ -faldig.
