[edit]From Proto-Turkic *äm-čäk (“breast; nipple”) (earliest attested in 13th century), from Proto-Turkic *äm- (“to suck”).
Cognate with Kyrgyz эмчек (emcek), Southern Altai эмчек (emček), Kazakh емшек (emşek), Crimean Tatar emçek, Uzbek emchak, Turkmen emjek, Bashkir имсәк (imsək), etc.
