[edit]- (pathology) peripheral edema: a medical condition characterized by swelling in the extremities, particularly the legs, ankles, and feet, but can also occur in the arms and hands, caused by the accumulation of excess fluid in the tissues, typically due to small blood vessels leaking fluid into the surrounding areas.
