- (pharmacology) A drug taken orally in the form of its mesylate C23H25N5O5·CH4O3S to relieve urethral obstruction in benign prostatic hyperplasia and to treat hypertension. It is a derivative of quinazoline that acts to relax smooth muscle by combining with and blocking the activity of an alpha-receptor.
