double descent (uncountable)

  1. The presence of both patrilineal and matrilineal descent groups in a society.
  2. (statistics, machine learning) The phenomenon where a model with few parameters and a model with many parameters have a small test error, but a model whose number of parameters is about the same as the number of data points used to train the model will have a large error.
