Etymology

[edit]

From dodeca- +‎ triene.

Noun

[edit]

dodecatriene (plural dodecatrienes)

  1. (chemistry) A chain of twelve carbon atoms with three double bonds.
    • 2009, J. J. Zuckerman, ‎A. P. Hagen, Inorganic Reactions and Methods, page 165:
Reaction run in presence of 2 mol equiv butadiene; trans-2-butene, oxtadienes and dodecatrienes are in the final product, but no diphenylmethane or phenylcyclohexane.

Usage notes

[edit]
  • Dodecatrienes vary in structure depending on the positions of the double bonds. The term is usually prefixed by three numbers, indicating the positions of those double bonds along the chain of carbon atoms: e.g. 2,6,10-dodecatriene.
