  1. Any alkene that contains 22 carbon atoms and five double bonds.
    • 1964, The Journal of Nutrition - Volumes 82-83, page 332:
      Degradation studies indicated it to be a docosapentaene however.
    • 1973, Soy Bean Oil, Hydrogenated - Issue 128, page 22:
      Thus 22:5x3 is the linolenate type of pentaene and 22:5x6 is the linoleate type docosapentaene.

Arguably, the most important docosapentaene is docosapentaenoic acid, which is the carboxylic acid form of docosapentaene (that is, it has a -COOH functional group at one end of the molecule).
