[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *dʰr̥Hbʰ-, a zero-grade of *(s)dʰerHbʰ- (“to exert force”). Cognate with Latvian dir̂bt (“to walk fast”), Proto-Germanic *derbaną (“to work”).[1]
