From di- +‎ ramo, or possibly from a Vulgar Latin *dērāmāre, from Latin rāmus (branch). Compare Romanian dărâma, Dalmatian dramur, Old French deramer, Spanish and Portuguese derramar; compare also Albanian dërmoj.
