From Middle Irish dinér, dinnér, from Old French disner, from Vulgar Latin *disiūnāre, from Late Latin disieiūnō (to break the fast), from, dis- + iēiūnō (to fast), from ieiūnus (fasting, abstinent, hungry, adjective).[1]
