[edit]Inherited from Old Spanish dizeseis, diezeseis (literally “ten and six”), an analytical form (compare Galician dezaseis, Portuguese dezesseis, dezasseis) replacing Old Spanish seze, sedze, from Latin sēdecim (compare Catalan setze, French seize, Italian sedici).
