[edit]From dē- (“removing”) + calx, calceus (“heel”, “shoe”) + -ō (suffix forming first-conjugation verbs). Compare calceō (“I shoe", "I put on shoes”), discalceō (“I pull off or remove my shoes”) and its descendants such as French déchausser.
