dazzle camouflage (uncountable)

  1. A paint scheme used on ships, mainly during World War I, consisting of a complex pattern of geometric shapes in contrasting colours, interrupting and intersecting each other. Its aim was not to conceal but rather to make it difficult to estimate the ship's range, speed, and heading.
