[edit]Derived from Proto-Arawa *'dako(rija) (“lake”), with an unknown second element. This second element, *fuá, may be related to the second element of chirifuá (“turtle”), possibly deriving from Proto-Arawa *raphowa (“to swell, to overflow”) (cf. Jarawara dialect of Jamamadí fowa).
