[edit]Etymology
[edit]According to Orel, from dialectal dëllënjë, from Proto-Albanian *daislanjā, from *daislā (“tendon, sinew”) (modern dell).[1] According to Çabej (corroborated by Demiraj), a derivative of dyllë (“wax, sap”) > *dyɫinjə with the -inj plural suffix.[2] According to Topalli, the root could have been inherited from Proto-Indo-European *dʰayl- (“part, watershed”) with the same plural suffix.[3]
