Etymology

[edit]

According to Orel, from dialectal dëllënjë, from Proto-Albanian *daislanjā, from *daislā (tendon, sinew) (modern dell).[1] According to Çabej (corroborated by Demiraj), a derivative of dyllë (wax, sap) > *dyɫinjə with the -inj plural suffix.[2] According to Topalli, the root could have been inherited from Proto-Indo-European *dʰayl- (part, watershed) with the same plural suffix.[3]
