cross check (plural cross checks)

  1. (ice hockey, lacrosse) An illegal maneuver whereby a player hits and pushes another player with their stick while holding it stick with both hands. Illegal in hockey when no part of the hockey stick is touching the ice surface; illegal in lacrosse when the opposing player is touched by the portion of the stick between the player's hands, when those hands are farther apart than the shoulders.
