[edit]From cornac (“elephant driver, guide”), borrowed from Portuguese cornaca, from Sinhalese කූරුව-නායක (kūruwa-nāyaka, “elephant trainer”), from කූරුව (kūruwa, “elephant department”) + Sanskrit नायक (nāyaka, “guide, leader”).
