colortype (plural colortypes)

1. (photography, historical) A color print that is produced by combining the images from three photo-engraved plates, each contributing a single primary color (red, blue, or yellow).
   • 1896, Photographic Times, page 109:

     There are two good colortypes and a number of half-tone illustrations. Many of the latter have unfortunately been spoiled in the printing.
