choronym (plural choronyms)

  1. A type of toponym representing the name of a region, country or any other territory.
    • 1996, Adrian Room, An Alphabetical Guide to the Language of Name Studies[1]:
      Choronym (Gk. khôra, “place,” “land," "country" + -onym). A type of toponym, as the name of any country, territory, region, district or the like. Ex. America, United States, Scotland, Armenia, Texas, Siberia, Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone National Park, Provence, Sicily, Antarctica.
    • 2018, Oleg Rustemov, Crimean Toponyms in the Court Registers of the 17th–18th Centuries and the Issue of the Crimean Tatars' Tribal Composition[2]:
