chloremic

  1. (medicine) Pertaining to illnesses involving difficulties in processing chlorides, especially nephritis in which the kidneys have trouble excreting chlorides.
    • 1912, “Renal Functions in the Course of Nephritis of Childhood”, in Charlotte Medical Journal, volume 65, page 428:
      In the chloremic form there may occur pharyngolaryngeal edema, pulmonary edema, hydrothorax, digestive troubles, including vomiting and diarrhea, headache, eclampsia, coma, Cheyene-Stokes respiration, and visual troubles.
    • 1915, A. Sachs, M.D. Omaha, “Nephritis”, in Western Medical Review, volume 20, number 8, page 469:
      One rarely sees however, a pure azotemic, or chloremic form, but usually a combination of these various forms is present.
