[edit]Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic киновиꙗ (kinovija), from Koine Greek κοινόβιον (koinóbion, “monastery, monastic community”), from κοινόβιος (koinóbios, “communal living”), from κοινός (koinós, “common, shared”) + βίος (bíos, “life”). Doublet of cenobiu.
